Project Meeting

The 14th January was filled with a lot of work. Teacher Meeli organized the plane tickets to Spain in March. This time our school will be represented by our school teachers Evelyn Kurg, Edda Rei and Raul Metsaäär and students Lauri Mölder, Liisbet Karjane and Evita Lohu. They already filled their forms, which the host families were already waiting for. As we decided to continue saving energy in our school, Reino started preparing the energy savings board. We are going to start on the 18th January and we will finish at the end of the school year. Sandra will ask the principal for the school electricity readings every week. The boys divided the school into sections, where they will monitor the corridor lights. We hope that the whole school will start saving energy with us. The girls with teacher Edda chose 3 recipies. Evita and Gladis translated them into English with teacher Evelyn. Liisbet and Karol with the teachers put together the energy savings board.

On 21th January Reino, Ingomar and Lauri finished the energy savings table which they put up on the ground floor. We anxiously wait for the results. The girls started decorating the recipes with teacher Edda.

Healthy Estonian Food Day.

On 16th December we made our final preperations for the healthy foods day.

On 22th December we had the healthy Estonian food day, where the students could learn about eating healthy foods.

The day started with Anne Kersna lecturing forms 4.-9. . At the beginning of the lecture she introduced a book titled Estonian Food. We found out a lot of interesting stories about food customs, food ingredients, their origin and healthyness. At the end of the lecture students could show what they had learned at the lecture. The day continued with preparing the dishes. Students made traditional Estonian dishes, served them in the school canteen and decorated their recipes. The judges evaluated how the dishes were served, how the food tasted and how well the recipes were decorated. The best cooks were forms 5, 7b and 7a students, whose dishes tasted delicious and were beautifully served.

There were also special prizes given out:

6b - the school cook added their food to the school canteen menu.

8 - best homemade food.

9 - simple and traditional.

6a - the most Christmass-like food.

The project team has to decide next year, which Estonian dish we are going to present to our project partners to taste.

The Comenius project meeting was held in Ireland, Colaiste Chraobh Abhanni School, 18.-22. November.

On Wednesday we came to school with our luggage and after two first lessons we left for Tallinn Airport. The first flight was to Copenhagen. From Copenhagen we caught a plane to Dublin. In Dublin we were welcomed by an Irish teacher Ruth. From Dublin we went to Bray on a bus. The teachers stayed in hotel "Royal" while the students were taken to their host families. On Thursday morning we went to Colaiste Chraobh Abhanni School. There were a lot of students and they all had the same school uniforms. There were also a lot of exchange students from different parts of the world.

The feedback of "Switch Off" campaign was given in Media classroom where each school presented their results on energy savings. The students also attended classes. After lunch we went to Glendalough National Park where due to bad weather walking tour was canceled. Instead we visited the museum and watched a 5 minute movie about the history of nearby buildings and history. After that we visited a Christmas gift shop. Then we returned to school where students were picked up by their host families and teachers taken to their hotel.

On Friday morning we gathered in school again and students took part in classes while the teachers were having a project meeting in the music class. After that we went to see the tallest waterfall in Ireland which is 121m high. Later we our sightseeing tour continues in Powerscourt Manor and park. There we had a chance to walk around the park and see beautiful ponds and lakes, in addition to the sculptures. We also had lunch in the castle cafe. When we had eaten, a group photo was taken. After that we went back to school and students could experience making scones. After tea break we went into the music class where we were taught an Irish folk dance. In the evening we got together again in a fancy restaurant where we could order a three course meal.

On Saturday we went to Dublin by train. Our sightseeing day started with a bus tour. It was an open top double-decker. After the bus tour everyone got an hour to explore the city. We were also supposed to see a prison, but due to bad weather the trip was cancelled. After that we headed to the train station to catch a train back to the hotel and host families. Some of the students and teachers got off in Bray, the other in Greystone.

On Sunday morning we had to get together in hotel Royal. We took a bus to airport. From the Dublin Airport we flew to Oslo where we had a lot of free time.

Everybody was back at home by midnight and the next day we all were at school.
